Why use WebM on a website?
WebM with the VP9 codec usually produces smaller files than H.264 MP4 at the same visual quality, so hero videos and background clips load faster and use less bandwidth. All modern browsers play WebM.
Use both formats
For the widest support, offer WebM first and MP4 as a fallback:

Is WebM smaller than MP4?
Often, yes, when WebM uses VP9. The difference depends on the video; for many clips it's noticeably smaller at the same quality.
Does WebM play on iPhone?
Current versions of Safari play WebM in the browser, but some older iPhones and apps don't. Keep an MP4 fallback on your site.
Is my video uploaded anywhere?
